I know for some expectant mother, exercise may not be on the list of their must-do lists. I know my sister-in-law (carrying twins) is winded getting around, let alone exercising. But then I see this picture, I see doing yoga or running while pregnant and I think it’s awesome. Not to forget yesterday’s post on gestational diabetes, they prescribe medicine. Why should you exercise during pregnancy besides to feel better?
- Improved posture
- Decreased aches (notably back)
- Decrease fatigue
- Evidence that it may prevent gestational diabetes
- Relieves Stress
- Build up stamina for the delivery
- Prevent wear and tear on joints
- Help with recovery and post-baby exercise
- Improve sleep
Note that exercise may not be feasible for all pregnant women (spotting, bleeding, etc) so check with your doctor first. If you are able to work out, what to do? Mix it up with cardio, strength training and flexibility. Stretch, warm-up, work the core, stay out of excess heat and don’t get your heart rate up too high. Listen to your body and find a routine that works for you. Don’t forget we are all unique with our own individuals likes and needs. Have fun!
