Why meditate? Way back we used to have a lifestyle pyramid and meditation was one of the bigger tiers of the pyramid. It makes sense, because stress is so rampant nowadays. Here are some great examples from the Chopra website for why you should meditate:

  • Decreased blood pressure and hypertension
  • Lowered cholesterol levels
  • Reduced production of “stress hormones,” including cortisol and adrenaline
  • More efficient oxygen use by the body
  • Increased production of the anti-aging hormone DHEA
  • improved immune functionmeditation
  • Decreased anxiety, depression, and insomnia
  • counter our negative thoughts
  • release stress (prolonged stress can contribute to high blood pressure, heart disease, stomach ulcers, autoimmune diseases, anxiety, cancer, insomnia, chronic fatigue, obesity, depression, and accelerated aging)
  • encourage positive intentions
  • joy in the NOW
  • tap into brains potential for learning, focusing and adapting
  • potential brain growth (neural connections)
  • cultivates equanimity and compassion (presence and nurturing in your relationships)
  • connect to a field of infinite possibilities or pure potentiality, and we open to new insights, intuition, and ideas
  • triggers the brain to release neurotransmitters, including dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, and endorphins

Let’s close with what we all really want and what is truly important in life. The sense of well-being an peace. What they have to say:

Silence is the birthplace of happiness. Silence is where we get our bursts of inspiration, our tender feelings of compassion and empathy, and our sense of lovehappiness

What are you waiting for?!? Sign up for three weeks of meditation motivation now and pass it on! More on meditation to come.
