Goal Setting 101:  Create Your Life

G et Possible.  Be Powerful.

O wn your decisions, create your life.  Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

A goal is a milestone to your ideal life.  Be audacious.

L ive and be inspired by your goals.  They are for you.

Get Possible.  Be Powerful.

The time is now.  Leave the past in the past.  Leave it right there.

Be in the now.

What are you waiting for?

Own your decisions, create your life.  Where do you want to be in 10 years?

Take time in a space that you feel the most inspired.  Close your eyes and envision your life 10 years from today.  You are limitless.  Feel the moment.  What does it taste like, what does it smell like?  Who are you with and what are you doing?  Are you working, retired, on vacation?  Do you have a family, pets or plants?  Are you in a home, an apartment or in an RV?  Do you go on adventures, travel or volunteer?  Where do you want to go?  Who do you want to be?

Write it down.

A goal is a milestone to your ideal life.

Goals inspire you.  Goals create a future that would otherwise not have existed.  Goals get you to where you want to go.  Take time to write your goals down on paper.  The acts of writing them down is like sending a letter to the World and saying here I come, watch out.  Write it down, now.

Set goals in the present tense with an accountability date.  Use ‘I am’ with a ‘by when’ to create a goal.  It may sound something like this:  I am a homeowner in Boulder, Colorado by March, 2017.  We set goals in the present tense, as if it already is happening, because we declare it.  We have a date attached to hold ourselves accountable to strategic action and planning.  Look at your 10 year vision and start writing down goals to get you there.

Where do you set goals in your life?  Personal, Career and Health are a great place to categorize your goals and provide balance.  You can add domains such as Financial or Adventure goals, as well.  This is your life; create it with your own style in all your domains.   Rock time with 1 year, 3 year and 10 year goals to create a timeline to achieve those milestones.

As the creator of your goals, nothing is set in stone.  If something does not feel right, remove it.  If something feels too far away, move it up!  You are the writer, use pencil if you have to and look at your goal ever 3-6 months to gain clarity, insight and action.

Live and Be Inspired by your Goals.

REMINDER:  Goals are not a to-do list.  Nor are they a Bucket List.  Your goals are big, inspiring and creating your vision.

The goals you create for yourself are for you and the gifts only you can bring to world.  Do not set goals to look good, to fill a void or for your Mother, Brother or Significant Other.  Goals set from possibility, trust and choice are for YOU, from you.  Rock your life, not mine.   Because when you are living your utmost radical potential, you will be of the utmost service and truly the most joy to be around.  Believe that your Mother, Brother AND significant other will thank you.

Share your goals out loud.  The Universe is willing to conspire to make things happen with you, it is up to you to voice it, be it, and share it.

NOTE:  Now, not everyone will be onboard with your goals.  Say you want to move to Hawaii and live the island life by May, 2014.  You share it with a couple friends that scoff at the idea and come at you hard with all their doubts, fears and worry.   Fine.  You let them doubt, worry and fear.

However, when you share your ALOHA dream with a friend, friend of a friend or your local grocer who listens to your passion and wants to help you with a budget, strategy and even introduce you to their family friend on Maui.  You tell me, who are you going to continue to conspire with?  Well, I say, keep sharing your goals with them and surround yourself with people who support and stand for you.  Build a tribe that listens.

There are two kinds of people; those that talk about the cards they were dealt and survive this life AND those that know they are dealer and thrive in this life.

Which kind of people do you want to be?

Make the choice.  Now.

Build a vision, set goals, and create your life.
