Cod Liver Oil

We’ve covered fish in the past, but in looking further into my Weston Price information, I felt that a look at cod liver oil was needed. Of course, like with other fish oils, omega-3‘s are an important factor here. Most Americans have an overabundance of omega-6 circulating through them because most processed foods and traditional oils, like canola, have littered with 6’s rather than 3’s. This causes an imbalance. This imbalance along with vitamin deficiency add to the nations declining state of health and expanding waistlines. Important of these omega-3’s are EPA (lead to prostaglandins) and DHA (essential for brain and nervous function and development). Studies have shown that these elongated omega-3 improve:

  • brain function
  • stress response
  • memory
  • allergies
  • immune response
  • asthma
  • learning and behavioral disorders
  • important for maintaining and replenishing bone

Also of interest is cod liver’s content of fat-soluble vitamins, A and D. Also fascinating is that the Activator X (vitamin K2 found in butter oil) works synergistically with the vitamin D and A. Therefore, a diet rich in vitamin K2 (from butter oil, fat of grass-fed animals, duck or goose liver) helps in the absorption and use of the cod liver oil benefits.
